Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), commonly known in the industry as K12, also called sodium lauryl sulfate (CAS number 151-21-3), is one of the most produced and widely used anionic surfactants. It is produced from natural fatty alcohols through sulfation and neutralization reactions, and is commonly found in white to slightly yellow needle-like or powdery solids, or colorless transparent liquids.
With its strong foaming ability, excellent detergency and emulsification properties, and mature industrial production system, K12 is widely used in many fields such as daily chemicals, building materials, pharmaceuticals, food, and textiles, and is a basic bulk product in the surfactant category.
